The start of December marks the beginning of the holiday season, and Charleston is full of exciting events for the whole family! We at the Peninsula Company have compiled a list of some of the events that we’re most looking forward to for you to browse and explore.
Experience America’s oldest public garden in a new light. This family-friendly lantern festival is the result of a year-long partnership with Magnolia Gardens and the Zigong Lantern Group in China. The festival features nine acres of large-scale thematically unified lanterns, a fusion of historic Chinese cultural symbols and images that represent the flora and fauna of Magnolia. Lights of Magnolia takes place Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 pm until 9:30 pm, for ticket and more information, click here.
This local favorite is a family-friendly drive-through event. The James Island County Park is lit up with dazzling displays of lights, and the nightly attraction is open rain or shine. The Park also invites you to park your car and enjoy its many other offerings, such as the holiday train ride, Santa’s Sweet Shoppe, and the walking trail. For more information on admission and times, you can check out their website linked above!
The 42nd annual Kiawah Island Golf Resort Marathon is hotly anticipated as one of the most beautiful marathons around. Runners can choose to participate in either a half-marathon or a full, and, whichever they choose, will get to enjoy the beautiful scenery of maritime forests, marshes, and gorgeous homes. You can sign up via their website.
Another holiday favorite, the Holiday Parade of Boats, puts a Lowcountry spin on the traditional parade. People from all over Charleston line up along the Cooper River to watch dazzling boat displays sail along. You can check out the best viewing sites and their anticipated route on their website.
